A peace marathon is being organised at Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautama Buddha on the full moon day of March 12, 2017. The marathon is aimed at spreading peace through the messages of Buddha who returned back home after enlightenment on the full moon day.
The marathon has been divided into three categories. A 5 km run for students less than 16 years of age has been set in the first category. The second is a 21 km run, which is a half marathon for participants above 16 years of age. The main category, the full marathon, is designated for athletes above the age of 18 and traverses a distance of 42.195 km.
An entry fee of NRs 500 for Nepalese citizens and NRs 1500 for international participants has been allocated for participation. The entry fee includes T-shirt and other giveaways and facilities.
